IRON-MAN CLASSIC-Complete Info!

Burnside, KY-September 30, 2012- Lake Cumberland Speedway track promoter Brandon Hardgrove and staff are busy getting ready for one of the track’s biggest racing weekends of the year as the 3/8 mile semi-banked clay oval presents a doubleheader of racing action on Friday October 12 and Saturday October 13 with the Border Wars/8th Annual Ironman Classic Weekend, with Super Late Models racing for $3,000 to win on Friday October 12 and $5,000 to win on Saturday October 13.

The Super Late Models will run under CT Promotions/Iron-Man Classic Rules and Procedures and the event will utilize the Speedway’s track tire rule of Hoosier LM40/1600 and American Racer 56 on the rear. Tires must punch 60 prior to the event and the front end of the car is open compound and brand. The Super Late Model entry fees will be $40.00 on Friday and $60.00 for Saturday. There will be no entry fees in any other divisions. CT Promotions will sanction, register, run technical process and officiate the Super Late Model portion of both events.

The Friday October 12 event will be the first night of the 8th Ironman Classic/Border Wars weekend event and will feature Super Late Models racing for $3,000 to win in their main event. The Modifieds will also be in action at the Friday October 12 event and will race for $800 to win. Joining the Super Late Models and Modifieds on the Friday October 12 racing program will be the Super Dirt Stocks/Sportsman racing for $300 to win (8 car minimum) and Front Wheel Drives will be racing for $150 (8 car minimum). The Super Late Models will utilize the group time trials format, while Modifieds will also time trial. The Super Dirt Stocks/ Sportsman and Front Wheel Drives will pill draw for heat race starting positions. The Super Late Model A-Main on Friday October 12 will start 18 cars, with the 18th starting position being a past Ironman Classic provisional starting spot.

Super Late Model A-Main Payout for Friday October 12 (40 laps/$3,000 to win): 1) $3000, 2) $1500, 3) $850, 4) $750, 5) $650, 6) $550, 7) $450, 8) $400, 9) $350, 10) $330, 11) $320, 12) $310, 13) $300, 14) $290, 15) $280, 16) $270, 17) $260, 18) $250.

The Saturday October 13 racing event will feature second night of the 8th Annual Ironman Classic/ Border War weekend event in which the Super Late Models will compete for $5,000 to win, while the Modifieds will compete for $1,000 to win. Joining the Super Late Models and Modifieds on the Saturday October 13 racing program will be the Super Dirt Stocks/Sportsman racing for $300 to win (8 car minimum) and Front Wheel Drives will be racing for $150 (8 car minimum). The Super Late Model and Modified divisions will time trial, while the Super Dirt Stocks/Sportsman and Front Wheel Drives will pill draw for heat race starting positions. The Super Late Model A-Main on Saturday October 13 will start 20 cars, with the 19th starting position being a past Ironman Classic provisional and the 20th starting position being a Lake Cumberland Speedway track provisional starting spot.

Super Late Model A-Main Payout for Saturday October 13 (50 laps/$5,000 to win): 1) $5000, 2) $2500, 3) $1000, 4) $850, 5) $750, 6) $650, 7) $550, 8) $450, 9) $425, 10) $400, 11) $375, 12) $365, 13) $355, 14) $345, 15) $325, 16) $300, 17) $300, 18) $300, 19) $300, 20) $300.

As an added attraction for the Saturday October 13 racing activities, there will be a cornhole tournament on Saturday afternoon, along with a driver’s autograph session at 5:30 p.m. that afternoon. Also, there will be a collection for Operation Christmas Child on Friday and Saturday, with those donating a toy receiving a voucher to the concession area.

Activities for the Friday October 12 portion of the 8th Annual Ironman Classic/Border Wars Weekend will see the pit area and general admission area open at 4:00 p.m. The drivers meetings will take place at 7:00 p.m., with practice laps set to get underway at 7:30 p.m. Time trials will begin at 8:00 p.m., with racing set for the green flag at 8:30 p.m. Ticket prices on Friday October 12 in the general admission area will be $20 for adults, $10 for children ages 6 to 12, and children ages 5 and under are free. A pit pass will be $35.

The Ironman Classic is the brainchild of CT Promotions owner Chris Tilley and was started in 2004 and won by Jackie Boggs of Grayson, KY at Mountain Motor Speedway in Isom, KY, while the 2005 event would be rained out. Chris Combs of Isom, KY would earn his nickname as “Ironman” when he scored back-to-back victories in the 2006 and 2007 events at Mountain Motor Speedway. The event would move to Richmond Raceway in Richmond, KY in 2008 and Don O’Neal of Martinsville, IN would etch his name in the record books as winner of the event. In 2009, the event returned to Mountain Motor Speedway and Josh McGuire of Grayson, KY would claim the race victory, while Shannon Thornsberry of Martin, KY would score one of his biggest career wins by taking the checkered flag in the 2010 event at Mountain Motor Speedway. Jackie Boggs would become the second repeat winner of the race by claiming the race victory in 2011 as the event would be held at Southern Ohio Speedway in Wheelersburg, OH and is the defending race champion.

Lake Cumberland Speedway last presented racing competition on Saturday September 22 and feature event winners that evening included Dennis Barton of Corbin, KY in Super Late Models, Mikah Reams of Mount Vernon, in Modifieds, and Keith Decker of Somerset, KY in Super Dirt Stock/Sportsman.

Track championship division point leaders at Lake Cumberland Speedway heading into the Friday and Saturday October 12, 13 8th Annual Ironman Classic/Border Wars weekend event include Johnny Wheeler of Campbellsville, KY in Super Late Models, Tommy Bailey of Corbin, KY in Modifieds, Keith Decker of Somerset, KY in Super Dirt Stocks/Sportsman, and Rusty Light of Nancy, KY in Front Wheel Drives.

Burnside, KY-September 30, 2012- Lake Cumberland Speedway track promoter Brandon Hardgrove is pleased to announce a great partnership for the second night of the 8th Annual Ironman Classic/ Border Wars Weekend event on Friday October 12 and Saturday October 13 that will benefit many children when Christmas arrives in December by partnering with Operation Christmas Child.

Operation Christmas Child Samaritan's Purse is a non-denominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan's Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God's love through His Son, Jesus Christ. Operation Christmas Child, the world's largest Christmas project, brings joy and hope to needy children around the world through gift-filled shoe boxes and the Good News of God's love. Since 1993, more than 94 million shoe box gifts have been delivered to children in more than 130 countries.
