Ninth Annual Iron-Man Classic part of Fall Classic Weekend at Ponderosa Speedway October 11/12

 

SOMERSET, KY (September 15, 2013)—The Ninth Annual running of the CT Promotions-sanctioned Iron-Man Dirt Track Late Model Classic will be held on Friday Night October 11, 2013 as part of the opening night of the annual Fall Classic weekend at the Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY.

 

The Friday Night event will pay $2,000 to win / $200 to start for the Super Late Models. Also scheduled to compete that night are the Open Wheel Modifieds and Crate Late Models. On Saturday night October 12th the track will host their un-sanctioned $5,000 Fall Classic race with support classes racing as well.

 

This marks the fifth different track in nine Iron-Man Classic races that the event has traveled to. During the first-ever event, Jackie Boggs of Grayson, KY claimed the $2,000 prize at the Mountain Motor Speedway. In 2005 the event would be rained out. In 2006 and 2007 Chris Combs of Isom, KY would lay claim to the Iron-Man Classic title and go on to and even currently hold the nickname ‘Iron-Man’ for his feat of the back-to-back $2,000 and $5,000 event wins. In 2008, national star Don O’Neal of Martinsville, IN claimed the $3,400 event win at Richmond (KY) Raceway in an event that holds the high car count at 36. Josh McGuire of Grayson, KY would win the co-sanctioned National All Stars Racing Association racein 2009 at Isom, KY and Shannon Thornsberry would win in 2010 at the Isom, KY track. In 2011, the event would move to Southern Ohio Speedway and Jackie Boggs would take the $5,000 payday in the STARS Midwest Dirt Racing League co-sanctioned event. In 2012 Michael Chilton would take back-to-back wins ($3,000 and $5,000) in the two day race held in Burnside, KY.

 

The rules of this year’s Iron-Man Classic will be CT Promotions Rules & Procedures. The Tire rule is Hoosier LM40 & 1600 plus American Racer MD56 on the rear, open front. CT Promotions will be taking multiple random tire samples for chemical alterations the night of the event. 2300 lbs. weight minimum for the Open Motors and 2200 lbs. for Steel Block engines. A pound per lap burnoff will be given for Heats, Last Chance Showdowns and the Main event. Body rules will be UMP DirtCar/SAS for the night. No entry fees will be charges for this year’s event. Track pit gate and grandstand admission fees apply.

 

The format for this year’s Iron-Man Classic is (31 or less cars) There will be three Heats ran, the top five will transfer and one Last Chance Showdown with the top-five transferring. If (32 or more cars) are there then there will be four Heat races ran with the top four transferring and then two Last Chance Showdowns and the top-two from each going to the 30-lap main event. Two provisionals will be given, one is reserved for the past Iron-Man Champion & if all are in the race then the provisional goes to the Fastest overall qualifier that didn’t transfer. The second provisional will be given to the highest driver in the current Ponderosa Speedway point standings that hasn’t made the show.

 

Payoff for Super Late Model Iron-Man Classic: 1) $2000, 2) $1100, 3) $600, 4) $550, 5) $500, 6) $400, 7) $350, 8) $300, 9) $275, 10) $250, 11) $240, 12) $230, 13) $220, 14) $210, 15) through 22) $200.
